Sensory Jars for Children
For children feeling overwhelmed by emotions, a sensory jar (also known as a calm-down jar) is a great option.
HOW TO MAKE A Glitter Jar
My children loved purple because it is soothing and reminds them of night skies. We also used silver star confetti to create a Falling Stars Glitter Jar.
You will need the following supplies to make a Calming Jar.
- Elmer’s Clear School glue
- Distilled Water
- Black Food Dye
- Plastic Jar with cap Plastic is preferred for children younger than 6.
- Silver Star Confetti
Step 1
- Then, add half of a bottle of clear glue to the Jar.
- Children love to see the confetti move around in the Jar, so be generous!
Step 2
- Next, add several tablespoons of silver star shimmer to the Jar.
- My daughter enjoyed pouring the purple water into the Jar by herself.
Step 3
- Fill the rest of the container with dyed distilled water. You will only need to use a little black dye to create a deep purple tone.
- You are now ready to use your glitter jar!
Step 4
- Attach the lid. As we did, you can also use a Mason jar to cut a small piece of purple construction paper and place it under the ring on top of your cover.
- Consider using hot glue to seal the lid for younger children.
- Now shake the jars and watch as silver star confetti swirls around.
